Thilanga Sumathipala is the present Joint Managing Director of the Sumathi Group of Companies one of the largest private corporate groups in Sri Lanka, founded by U. W. Sumathipala and expanded by both his sons Jagath and Thilanga Sumathipala.

He was born to Milina and U. W. Sumathipala and the closely knitted family consists of five sisters and two brothers including himself.

He married Samadara Samanmala Wimalaratne on June 11.1992 and they are proud parents of three sons namely : Udantha who is 14 years (1993), Dulantha 10 years (1997) and Sajantha 08 years (1999).

Thilanga started his schooling at Nalanda College-Colombo 10, Sri Lanka in 1970 and left College in 1983 to join the London College of Printing (UK) for his higher education where he holds a Diploma in Photolithograph Graphic Reproduction : 1984/1985 and a Certificate in Printing Techniques – 1983/1984.

Specializing as a Printer and publisher he has been to the Yokahama University (The Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) of Japan) to improve his Management skills in 1996.

He also attended Ex. Ed. At the Harvard Business School (USA) with his political appointment and Involvement in view he attended a course in “Driving Government Performance” at the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government in April 2006.
